"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
"In ancient Britain and Ireland, the Celtic Festival of Samhain was observed on October 31, at the end of summer...The souls of the dead were supposed to revisit their homes on this day and the autumnal festival acquired sinister significance, with ghosts, witches, goblins, black cats, fairies and demons of all kinds said to be roaming about. It was the time to placate the supernatural powers controlling the processes of nature. In addition, Halloween was thought to be the most favorable time for divinations concerning marriage, luck, health, and death. It was the only day on which the help of the devil was invoked for such purposes."
In early American history, Halloween was not celebrated due to America's strong Christian heritage. It was not widely observed until the twentieth century, and then only in small Irish Catholic communities which brought their customs to America with them. The rise in popularity of Halloween coincides with the national rise in spiritism that began in 1848. You can do your own research and easily find out the meanings behind jack-o-lanterns, trick or treating, costumes, etc. It is not my intent to get into all that here. What is important is that this day, and the celebration of it, has strong ties to Satan and his dark domain. These are the ancient pagan gods that we have been warned about over and over again in the scriptures.
In Joshua chapter 24, Joshua is speaking to the Israelites whom he has led in their exodus from Egypt:
15. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods of which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
19. And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the Lord: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
20. If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
I recently traveled to the New England states on vacation with my brother. We went to many spots of historical significance, such as Boston, Plymouth Rock, etc. On the way back to Boston we found ourselves within a few miles of Salem, MA. We thought it would be interesting to see the old village of Salem with it's colorful history. We also had a personal interest since we found, in the pursuit of our geneology, that one of our grandfathers way back was none other than Giles Cory, who was a victim of the witch trials. We had to park quite a distance away and walk across the bridge to the harbor. We found some beautiful old homes from the period that had been restored, as well as an old historic village. However, when you got to a district in town where the gift shops and food establishments were, I quickly realized that I had stumbled into what I can only describe as "hell on earth." I noticed immediately a huge throng of people, many in costume. There were people dressed in period clothing, but there were also a great number dressed as witches, zombies, men wearing satanic garb and masks, and other dark representations. There was a man playing the drums and participants from the crowd went into what looked to be a type of Voodoo dance with no expressions and jerky body movements. There were many children present, also mostly dressed in costume. It was so crowded you could barely get through the streets, and this was in the middle of the afternoon. I saw a man with a very real Baphomet mask on, carrying his young son on his shoulders. I felt so disoriented, and became absolutely physically ill walking through this crowd. All the shops advertised witch "supplies", potions, voodoo paraphernalia and the like, and there were many "curiosity" shops which looked like they had human bones on disply, etc. You can get the picture, I'm sure. I don't know if being so close to Halloween there was a mecca to this spot by witches, wiccans, and satanists world-wide, or if this was the general population from the Boston area coming down to Salem for a lark. All I could think of was these people were literally training their children up to be handed over to Satan. I was so sick to the depths of my soul, that it tooks me several days to shake off the feelings I experienced. I began praying for the strength to get out of that crowd and back to our car, and at one point I felt physically ill enough that I wondered if I'd have to crawl out of there. I did become frustrated with my brother, who was just browsing around like nothing was wrong. I felt like we were in totally different worlds, and marvelled that he wasn't disturbed at what was surrounding us.
I was glad to return to my home, and spent a great deal of time in prayer over what I had witnessed. This week, in my perusal of my usual websites in search of topics of interest I stumbed upon an interview by Cisco Wheeler. I do not know a great deal about this woman, or how valid many of her statements are concerning her past. However, I do know she was raised by a father that was very high up in the Illuminati ranks. She describes him as a satanist, and by her testimony I believe her. She was sending a message to the Christians in this nation, as well as the churches. She described in detail how important Halloween is to the satanists, and what power is unleashed during this time of year. There are many hours spent as the occult say incantations and cast spells on every aspect of Halloween, including the decorations, costumes, even pumpkins and apples that are representative of this pagan "holy day." She said you cannot underestimate the powers these things have over unsuspecting people. There are blood sacrifices of children made at this time of year by Luciferians, and other atrocities that I do not even want to know about or consider. When we subject our children to things, such as trick-or-treating, and children become scared and afraid, it creates a crack that lets even more evil in. How many times have we seen parents admonishing their children to "not be scared, it's ok" , or even done so ourselves while trick-or-treating? In being out in the environment of Halloween celebrations, the sights, sounds, and all the senses are left vulnerable to the things of darkness. There they are able to get a toe-hold into our children-plant an evil seed, so to speak. It can lead to fascination in things of the occult, such as seances, spells, ouijia boards, fortune tellers, card readers, horror movies, etc., which can progressivley lead righteous souls down the pathways to destruction. She also said there is no way to sanctify this pagan day by putting a rosy name on it. She said that churches that celebrate "fall festivals" or "Hallelujah day" cannot cleanse or disconnect this day from its occultish roots, and should not recognize or lend credence to it in any way, shape or form. This revelation touched me to the depths of my being. I fell to my knees in repentance, in case I had opened my children to being vulnerable to Satan's influence by taking them out for a harmless night of trick-or-treating. I felt I was no better than the parents that took their children to Salem and subjected them to the dark spirituality that inhabited that place.
I think the time has come to do a lot of soul-searching. In participating, even in ignorance, in Halloween and the celebrations we encounter, are we choosing which master we serve? Paul sums it up pretty well in Ephesians 6 - we are fighting against dark powers and principalities, and we need to be on constant guard, not underestimating the strength of our enemy. We need to strive to live worthy of the Lord's protection, not his condemnation.
