For those of you who even somewhat follow our blog and Baaad News posts you've probably noticed the sub-heading we added to our homepage several weeks back: 'Bringing To Light the Hidden Things of Darkness'. I would like to take this opportunity to explain where it came from and what it means to us.
The phrase itself is quite well-known among the LDS community as it is included in one of our books of scripture known as The Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Section 123. While it is often attributed to our commitment to missionary work around the World (verses 12 and 13 in particular), the historical context of this verse of scripture can be traced back to the founder and first prophet of our church, Joseph Smith, Jr. at a time when the Latter-Day Saints were experiencing extreme and severe persecution, in and around 1839. Joseph was troubled by the extreme measures that were being taken by governments and citizens alike to drive the relatively small group of church members from place to place, not to mention the many crimes against life and property that were being committed against them. Joseph had a very unique gift of being able to discern men as well as their actions and intentions and this is where I personally find significance in his words, which are as follows, all emphasis mine (taken as an excerpt from The Scriptural Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith):
The Gathering of False Reports
And again, we would suggest for your consideration the propriety of all the Saints gathering up a knowledge of all the facts and sufferings and abuses put upon them by the people of this state; and also of all the property and amount of damages which they have sustained, both of character and personal injuries, as well as real property; and also the names of all persons that have had a hand in their oppressions, as far as they can get hold of them and find them out; and perhaps a committee can be appointed to find out these things, and to take statements, and affidavits, and also to gather up the libelous publications that are afloat, and all that are in the magazines, and in the encyclopaedias, and all the libelous histories that are published, and are writing, and by whom, and present the whole concatenation of diabolical rascality, and nefarious and murderous impositions that have been practiced upon this people, that we may not only publish to all the world, but present them to the heads of government in all their dark and hellish hue, as the last effort which is enjoined on us by our Heavenly Father, before we can fully and completely claim that promise which shall call Him forth from His hiding place, and also that the whole nation may be left without excuse before He can send forth the power of His mighty arm.
A Duty to Wives and Children
It is an imperative duty that we owe to God, to angels, with whom we shall be brought to stand, and also to ourselves, to our wives and children, who have been made to bow down with grief, sorrow, and care, under the most damning hand of murder, tyranny, and oppressions, supported and urged on and upheld by the influence of that spirit which has so strongly riveted the creeds of the fathers, who have inherited lies, upon the hearts of the children, and filled the world with confusion, and has been growing stronger and stronger, and is now the very main-spring of all corruption, and the whole earth groans under the weight of its iniquity.
It is an iron yoke, it is a strong band; they are the very hand-cuffs, and chains, and shackles, and fetters of hell.
Therefore it is an imperative duty that we owe, not only to our own wives and children, but to the widows and fatherless, whose husbands and fathers have been murdered under its iron hand; which dark and blackening deeds are enough to make hell itself shudder, and to stand aghast and pale, and the hands of the very devil to tremble and palsy. And also it is an imperative duty that we owe to all the rising generation, and to all the pure in heart, (for there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it); therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven.
These should then be attended to with great earnestness. Let no man count them as small things; for there is much which lieth in futurity, pertaining to the Saints, which depends upon these things. You know, brethren, that a very large ship is benefited very much be a very small helm in the time of a storm, by being kept workways with the wind and the waves. Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power, and then may we stand still with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for His arm to be revealed.
Joseph knew who and what was driving these persecutors to carry out such atrocities against the Latter-Day Saints and not only did he understand the importance of exposing them, he strongly testified of our obligation to do so. This is why Silly Sheeple exists. We aim to expose the "hidden things of darkness" just as God has commanded. Once we know, we must share, expose and testify. Nothing less will do for we will be held accountable before Almighty God if we choose the path of silence and submission to these evil powers of darkness whose sole objective is to deprive us all of our agency, or ability to choose and act for ourselves. Christ's way is to lead by example through love, patience and longsuffering. Satan's way is to force us to do his bidding. As a disciple of Christ under covenant, I am obligated to do all that I possibly can to love, serve and warn my family, friends and fellow man. I have many faults but my heart and intentions are pure and I hope I may do some good while I am yet alive upon this Earth.
Please, if you are awake to what is happening to our great nation and the world in general, take courage and sound the warning voice. World War III is just around the bend and we must do all that we can to warn and prepare those around us both temporally and, more importantly, spiritually.
